“À la surface” series
Initially, this series stemmed from a personal challenge: to create a complete and realistic portrait.
But Christine Barone couldn't bring herself to paint a face that was simply beautiful.
She needed to reveal something else: a flaw, an inner truth.
Scars then emerged as a metaphor for those invisible wounds that each of us carries within.
Flaws, differences, vulnerabilities: making the intangible concrete, bringing it to the surface,
without diminishing our beauty.
