“On the surface” series
At first it was only a personal challenge: to produce a full and realistic portrait.
But the artist Christine Barone couldn't bring herself to paint a "simply beautiful" portrait.
She needed something else or something more.
The scars emerged as a metaphor for the wounds we have inside ourselves.
Faults, imperfections, differences.
Make the intangible concrete by bringing them to the surface, without taking away anything from our beauty.
